Extremely Good Quality – I am a Regular Buyer of this product
I do not post reviews often. But I decided to post a positive review on this product just because many people criticized this product without any idea about the product. Kohinoor is a well-known brand for Basmati Rice. But this product is NOT Basmati. It is written very clearly in the product description. This is probably the only Non-Basmati rice they produce & sell. I was looking for this exact thing i.e. a Non-Basmati normal rice for everyday Bengali dish. We call it a Siddha Rice or Boiled Rice. We have gone to all super stores around Kolkata and could not find a Siddha Rice from Kohinoor. They all have various kinds of Basmati rice only. Then I found this Non-Basmati Rice in Amazon. I was skeptical in the beginning reading all these negative comments. I ordered just one packet to test. Then I bought 5. Since then I am buying 5-6 packets every month for my own family and my sister’s family. I am 100% satisfied with this Rice and this is exactly what I wanted. Now, two things I want to clarify.First – the negative reviews posted by others. I guess they all bought this Rice expecting it to be a Basmati Rice. Probably they never cooked Boiled Rice ever. So the end-result did not meet their expectation. Very natural. Anyone expecting Basmati – MUST NOT BUY this product. This is NOT Basmati. Dont even expect it to be anything like Basmati. Please read the product description. If you do not know what it is, do not buy. There are plenty of options for Basmati – go for that. Do not waste your time for Non-Basmati Rice, if you want Basmati. I see this hilarious mistake is done by many buyers here. They purchased a Non-Basmati Rice, cooked it, and then complained that it is not Basmati. Please apply your common sense.Secondly – you should take some precautions while cooking this rice. This is extremely good quality, long grain, white, aromatic, tasty & beautiful. But it is very sensitive to the cooking process & the cooking time. If not cooked carefully, it can easily get sticky. To be specific, do not boil long. If you are cooking in a pressure cooker, do not even wait for the first whistle. Just before the first whistle sounds, switch off the oven. Yes. If you wait for the first whistle, which is the minimum, your rice will get sticky. You may not like it. It needs very less cooking. If you are cooking in open pot, just keep checking after 10 mins. This rice will take very less time compared to normal rice available in open market. It will take at least 3 to 4 trials before you get your hands perfect on this rice. I myself poured the rice into the drain 3 times, for bad cooking. It was my fault. The rice is perfect. Now that I completely understood its nature, I can prepare well cooked rice, which is just perfect – neither hard nor extra soft, nor sticky. It has nice aroma, delicious taste and beautiful flavour. So do not blame the rice if you do not get it perfectly cooked in your first trial. Just do some experiments and soon you will get it perfect. Then you are bound to love it. Needless to say, since this is not Basmati, you should not try to prepare dishes like Biriyani or Fried Rice with this. It is Boiled Rice and only meant for Dal-Sabji kind of meal – our daily meal in house.I am rating it 5 on 5 as the product is extremely good, clean and tasty.

10 mm Long grain sized rice
With respect to price of the rice I was not expecting it to be 15 mm long grain rice. All rice grains are basically long because they are less width and more in length. As per Google AI the answer i recived upon asking definition of long grain rice.“Grain Size of Rice: Short, Medium, and Long Grain – nLong-grain rice has slender kernels that are typically over 6 mm (about 1/4 inch) long, often four to five times longer than they are wide, staying fluffy and separate when cooked, with common examples being Basmati and Jasmine rice. Grains exceeding 7.5 mm might be labeled “extra-long“.I measured randomly picked six cooked rice grains keeping them in a line, see photo, and it measured 6cm or 60mm. Width about 1.25-1.5 mm so slightly more than six time width it maans it is slightly longer than long grain.I think it is better if rice can be soaked in water for an hour before being cooked.Long time ago in 90’s I used to purchase it but now it is not having that quality. May be due to water contamination.

cool rice
when I first got this I had no idea how full/long grain rice are different, full grain are ones that soak up less water, grow longer in leght, so there is tibar(broken in 3pcs), dubar(broken in 2pcs), full grain ( maximum size no broken). Thats the rice that I like!this rice was long grain rice! long grain rice soak more water and get fatter, the name can be a little misleading, so it becomes like the rice more widely used in south india. this rice isn’t my taste at all, soft, mushy, watery.I ended up using this rice for idli dosa batter and oh my god the taste was so much better!! so the quality of the rice is cool, just depends if you prefer long grain, or full grain?

Good for dosa or idli i guess
It’s thick broad and a little longer than your medium size grain the texture it cakey and dough like i would rather use this for dosa or idli definitely not for cooking if you like your rice extremely thick with almost dough like texture than this is for you

Overcooking variety
Rice is of weird quality. No matter how and how little time u cook it. It appears all squashed up n messy to eat. I don’t know who found this good. It’s good if u want to make bhat or curd rice.
